Lamar schools tighten security

In the wake of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the schools have beefed up security with the help of local law enforcement officers, but at least one parent says the schools could take one more simple step – lock the doors.

Thank you for taking steps to tighten security. This is the first, best thing that keep done to keep children safe from criminals, thugs and the violent mentally ill. And all done without stepping on the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Yeah....right. If that is the case then tell me why everytime I pick up my daughter early from school, I am never asked for my ID? Not just me, but my sister-in-law has never had to show hers to pick up her kids either. We were never even asked who we were trying to take kids out of the school!! Nope. Just walked right in and signed her out. You say that you are stepping up sercurity in the schools but what does that mean? Does it mean that you are going to actually follow through with the security plan that was supposed to be in place??

Thank you to the schools for being proactive with the children's safety. This is not the time to attack each other. I have a few suggestions. Lock the doors, and put a security camera at the doors so that a person and their ID can be seen. Also a metal detector for visitors to go through. If needed put bullet proof glass in the doors. We send billions in aide to other countries, but aren't our children more important then anything else to us. Call our law makers and let them know that we want some aide to go to the schools for more protection for our most vulnerable lives. Also, we have alot of retired military, police officers and prison guards. put them to work part-time. They are trained to look for abnormal behavior and weapons. I am quite sure some of them would like to make the extra money. Most of the time these people have benefits from their retirement.
