Well done! However, I'm curious about the ship itself. The media reported it as an American ship. There is no American shipping line and there has not been since U.S. Line went out of business decades ago. Maersk is Norwegian registry. Was it leased? or said to be American because the crew was American?
I say we need them. America has gotten to soft and needs to put its foot down when it comes to terrorism. No trial should be needed when caught red handed taking and holding hostages. It was my understanding that America does not negotiate with terriosts and here we are negotiating with them and holding them for trial, costing American taxpayers money for these trails. Punish them for their crimes and send them packing.
Should have been done sooner. Why did it take so long for America to step up and protect one of it's citizens? Kinda scary to think that if I were in that situation it would take that long to be rescued.
Maersk Line, Limited
Maersk Line, Limited, is a US-based subsidiary of A. P. Moller-Maersk Group which manages a fleet of US-flag vessels and provides U.S. government agencies and their contractors with transportation and logistics services. Today, Maersk Line, Limited, manages the world's largest fleet of US-flag vessels. Its headquarters are based in Norfolk, Virginia.[8]
I believe that the piracy activity in the region will taper off significantly in the coming weeks, while the people from Somalia do some flag training....1st lesson; don't mess with ships flying those red, white and blue flags. Because such activity could be dangerous to your health!
i cant believe it took so long to pick them off. I posted up on a message board that they needed to assign 2 snipers to one pirate. One loud bang and all pirates are dead at one time. A few hours after i posted it i looked on the yahoo news and it showed that the snipers took 3 of them out.
This is a great example of why I should never be President. I would have told the entire "country" of Somalia to take up gardening and give up fishing. Any boat leaving shore for any reason, ZAP!

Back when I was a sniper we took people out to look for a bird with a long beak. Oops - that’s a different kind of sniper.....
Excellent job... wish it had happened sooner...
Those ships traveling in that part of the world are going to have to defend themselves. They can't expect the American Navy to do a job they are capable of doing. It's a new service oriented job about to be born. Deadliest Catch is about to come in second to the new high seas job of ship security. Arm the ships and blow any approaching pirates out of the water.
My guess is that they were trying to secure the safety of the Alabama's captain. And it being the Navy, I would guess there are some chain of command type rules to follow.
Whatever the case, job well done.
And anytime the USA flexes some muscle out there in the world, it's a good thing.
It's about time. We need to quit worrying about whose feelings we hurt and being so politicly correct and start defending ourselves.
I have to disagree with Big Dan though. I think it will take a few more dead pirates before we see any difference.
Maersk has an American subsidiary, which operates the "Alabama," which is not to be confused with the CSS Alabama, which wouldn't have put up with any nonsense of this sort. It is a noteworthy coincidence that the USS Bainbridge is the namesake of a commodore famous for fighting Barbary Coast pirates.

As for the SEAL snipers- way to go!
