The Cedar Grove Landfill is going green in a big way – so big it can reduce its impact on the environment by a potential 90%, possibly more. Instead of building new waste cells at a cost of $14 million, it can produce revenue from garbage by turning it into fuels for a net income of an estimated $2.8 million a year.
As a Lamar County commission meeting breaks up, solid waste authority director Johnny Poore explains to Katherine McHan how the new pyrolisys machine will turn almost all of the garbage that comes to the landfill into 90% recycled energy and 10% almost pure carbon mass – which may in itself be marketable.

We have a facility we can be proud of with people who are committed to their industry and doing their best for Lamar County. Great Job Cedar Grove!
