If you work, you have reason to celebrate this week.
On average, Georgians who work have earned enough money to pay off their share of the tax burden at the federal, state and local levels as of April 9. So, we celebrate Tax Freedom Day.

The unemployment rate would jump 3 points nationwide. I have friends that would not know what to do with themselves between February and April.
Not that I am against the Fair Tax mind you but it would be quite traumatic for sooooo many people who depend on the tax system to remain complicated.
I haven't seen a "fair tax" system proposal that is close to being fair, or working. While almost everyone with common sense agrees the tax code needs changed, there is very good reason to have progressive tax rates.
We need to back away from this mess Regan-ism got us into, and make long term future plans that include revising the tax system. But giving breaks to the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, and burdening the working poor with a so-called "fair tax" is not a logical, rational, intelligent approach to anything. All that will do is pull even more money out of circulation.
First, all I can assume is you have not really read any fair tax proposal or you would not be knee-jerk against it.
Second, there is no reason for a punitive, progressive tax code unless you are a socialist and interested in redistribution of wealth and buying votes from the lower tax brackets.
Third, Regan-ism did not get us into this mess. A congress more interested in spending than a balanced budget did. This isn't about Republican or Democrat, it is about a lack of fiscal responsibility in Congress which both parties have demonstrated.
Forth, and again, you are obviously not really familiar with the fair tax proposal if you think it impacts the middle and lower tax brackets for severely than any other bracket. It is the current progressive system with its hundreds of pages of legalese that are a completely imbalanced and un-fair system. No one is treated fairly under the current system. As long as you have a system that punishes people for being successful and is used to redistribute wealth, there will be no economic equality.

We need to go to the Fair Tax. That would solve so many problems and do away with the punitive progressive tax system.
