Gordon College student’s life shortened by alleged drunk driver in Cherokee County

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) about three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives.

That is a statistic that hit very close to home when 19-year-old Gordon College Student Brittany Elaine Weiss was struck broadside while driving her 2008 Scion home from a Canton movie theatre during the holidays.

May God bless this beautiful young lady's family. It's a shame that there's a package store on every corner or that people don't know their limits.
She was taken way too soon.

It is very sad to hear that such a young life has been taken too soon because of a drunk driver. I pray that God be with they family in their very difficult time. The comment before is right that it is a shame that people don't know their limits. I have lost a few family members and friends to drunk drivers and I feel more blame should be placed on the judges that do not harshly penalize DUI, even as a first offender. Most people that get one DUI end up with another and the judges are still too easy on them. It will only stop when people are heavily penalized the first time for DUI's. So if you are a judge reading this I hope and pray the next time a DUI offender comes in your court room, I hope you think of it as this person could have killed one of your family or friends.

That man will never know how much hurt he has caused so many people and how many lives were affected by this tragedy, simply because he chose to be driving drunk. We have to do something about DUI offenders...of course this time its on Brittany's and Kasie's behalf.

I had the privledge of doing a photsoot with Brittany. She was a vibrant young lady. I took her picture here which clear shows her personality. I pray for Brittan, Her Parents, and her friends as well.

WE MUST all strive for strick DUI laws and jail time as well. WhaT A BEAUTIFUL GIRL taken way too soon.

Brittany was my friend, and roommate at Gordon College.
You never expect something like this to happen so close to you.
It makes me sick to think of how selfish that guy was getting behind the wheel... and then fleeing the police, and running that red light.
All of this could have been avoided.
Alcohol is stupid. And it takes away lives.
R.I.P. Brittany. :(

Brittany was my best friend in elementary school. She lived a few houses down and she took family vacations with my family and I . She will be greatly missed. She was an only child as was I and I think that is why we got along so well. She was always goofing off and happy. We ended up going to the same college.I had just gotten back in touch with her in the months before her passing and I am missing her greatly.God Bless you Brit

I am really glad her school posted this. It is the first time I reading it though. Brittany was my best friend and she had such a great spirit. You hear about those who pass always being so happy...but she really was. We have been best friends since 7th grade when I moved to Georgia. She was coming to visit me for the first time after I moved back to Kansas. Her flight was Dec 28th and she was taken from us on Dec 26th 12am or so. Basically xmas night, stephen deserves what he got and I hope he has a miserable time in prison for the next 20 years. He won't really know the causes to his actions like Randie & Billy (Britts parents). I know I will never forget when I first found out day after xmas morning. Brittany will always be my best friend and I hope that judges are not so lax on their punishments next time.
