This is bad news, even if temporary. Lamar County needs to rethink how they attract and RETAIN businesses. There is nothing that sets this community apart, except the typical poor school system performance and copying of the same things other rural Georgia counties offer. At one time I had several employees, and paid six figures in wages that all came from out of state, and a few county employees couldn't give me enough hell.
Despite that, I would still like to see Lamar do better for the people who live here.
county an town leadership has always been b ville,s problem gotta get new blood in there those old people with those old ways of thinking will never change the way b,ville is gotta change the spirit in those meetings.
Tom,
Don't you think the new football stadium has changed life for all of us? Oh, wait. No, you're right. Isn't the current HS graduation rate still right about 50%? As long as that doesn't change, it will be difficult to convince people to move here, thus it will be difficult to convince industry/commerce to move here.
I'm not claiming our poor school system is the only issue, but it's part of it.
The information you put down about the graduation rate at Lamar is incorrect. The graduation rate at Lamar in 2012 was 77.89% and the 2013 numbers will soon be released. You may say that number is to low, but that was an increase of 10% from the previous year. Information can be found at the following link:
