At the request of Norfolk Southern Railway, the Department of Transportation will close the railroad crossing on Veteran’s Parkway near Highway 36 and Thomaston Street. Improvements to the track will be made. Traffic will be detoured from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Thursday, May 8, weather permitting.
This railway maintenance operation and the road closure is a necessity to enable the railway in creating a smooth transition for motorists at this rail crossing, according to a DOT press release.
Motorists will be able to access businesses, schools and residences in the area up to the work zone. Detour routes will be as follows:
• Traffic traveling from Upson County on 36 will be directed to continue onto Thomaston Street for three-tenth of a mile to Rose Avenue. Turn left onto Rose and travel to its intersection with the four-lane.
• Traffic traveling from Spalding County will be directed to turn left onto Rose to Thomaston Street, turning right and continuing back to its intersection with Veteran’s.
