As a taxpayer I would like to thank all the board for holding the line on spending. I would like to see all the teachers get raises. I know they have a tough job and I really appreciate them. Times are tough for everyone right now. Maybe in the future we can do more.
Again Thanks

Clay- As a teacher, I thank you for your kind words. If teachers are eligible for salary steps from the state (years of experience or a new degree) they will still get a raise, which is much more than a lot of counties are doing. I cannot speak for all LC teachers, but the sentiment I keep hearing is that most of us are thankful the board did not freeze us and thankful we still have jobs when so many around us are losing theirs. Thanks again and God bless!
I do not teach in Lamar County, but I am a teacher in Georgia. I have heard that all teacher's salaries, regardless of salary steps, were being frozen. My personal opinion of this is that the government, starting with Sonny Perdue, needs to take a look at the amount of assistant superintendents and directors and assistant directors there are in the school systems. Then, they should reduce the number by at least 1/2, and give those salaries to the teachers. Some of these "directors" are paid $80,000 for pushing paper around, and teachers only get $40,000 (starting teachers, that is, roughly)??? Compared to the number of hours we put in each and every day, the amount of paperwork we have to turn in, the amount of politics we have to deal with, no discipline in the classroooms, and how much we have to pay for out of our pockets, teachers don't get paid anywhere near what they should. I'm glad that Lamar County was able to save some money down the line, but couldn't they have done this another way??? And, like I said before, it's not just Lamar County--it's everywhere in Georgia. Teacher's pay scales for Georgia is among the lowest in the United States! It's no wonder Georgia is needing teachers! Anyway, thank you for the kind words and I pray that things will get better SOON!
