Buddy Lanier has been an athlete all his life. He recently started the job of his dreams, director of the Lamar County recreation department. He directed the Barnesville Civic Center from the time it opened 12 years ago until just a few weeks ago when he was hired as director of Lamar County parks and recreation.

Most all of the successful high school football, basketball, & baseball programs in the state have either good, or great, rec and middle school programs feeding them. For example, Pike County's Dixie Youth Baseball Program is recognized as one of the best, and strongest, in the state. There's a reason that their high school baseball team dominates the region every year. Go figure...
So, what's the plan? Why are the rec programs weak now, and what are the plans to change that...? Inquiring minds want to know... Enough of the cheerleading and good ole' boy back-slappin'... Time for some results. That's all!!!
1: Either you are still mad because Buddy hit you too hard back in the B.A. days or
2: You are mad that the scruge Papa John isnt at the rec dept anymore.
enlighten us please.
There are tons of kids still involved, they have just swapped sports. (soccer). Back when Buddy coached me, baseball, was a big thing here and soccer may have had 20 ppl sign up. We were real into baseball and football. There needs to be more coaches that are "ex" ball players that have a passion for it. Its great that some of the kids dads want to coach a team but truth be told they only played a year or two themselves. we need to get more competetive and aggressive to get LC up to par in the sports dept.
When your high school coaches have to start from scratch with the players that they are getting as freshmen, then that's an indictment on the quality of the lower level programs. That's all...
How about Dixie Youth Baseball? Is that an option? What is being planned for the 75 acres on Hwy. 36?
It is a real pleasure to not hear his loud political rants every morning at the Barnesville exercise gym. I notice more women are attending now that it is no longer a political shouting match every morning.
