OUCH! How much is this per student? How much is used to run the bus system? Why can't those that use the bus, pay to ride? How much does the "free" breakfast and lunch program cost? How does one get approved to eat for "free"? Who is really hungry? I bet the same kids go to McDonalds after school and eat quarter pounders and text each other on cell phones and listen to i-pods! Why do I have to keep paying for the schools even though I did not attend this school nor do I have children that do or will? Why do we have to pay for schools based on the value of ones property?
Until enough of us who are fed-up with the system start asking: WHY?
It will only get worse!
Perhaps you should do a bit of research before you whine and complain about things that you aparently have no clue in regards to? Your taxes would be drastically higher in other districts in regards to schools and you are more than welcome to leave ours if you so desire.
You are free to live anywhere you want and send your kids to school anywhere you want so if you don't like what goes on here you are also free to leave.
What a rude reply. What you said makes absolutely no sense. Therefore, I am of the opinion that it is you lacking a clue. By the way, you spell aparently “apparently”.
#1 ask straight forward questions, and as a tax payer would be entitled to an answer to those questions. That is unless some people were trying to deceive the people. Do you have anything to do with the school budget? Are you questionable, and do you have something to hide? It would be easy to interpret that assumption from your reply.
A BOE budget of 18.1 million seems very high to me also. That is $49,589.04 per day @ 365 days per year. And the kids only go to school for about 245 days. Therefore what is $73,877.55 per day be spent on. Where is the money coming from? It can’t all be from taxpayers in Lamar County, can it?
Gary, you and I agree more than one would think. I just remain anoym. because I would only bring undue attention and divert from subject matter at hand. Thanks for the support. Why? I ask is it up to every hard working citizen to pay for some of the programs (free meals) and services (buses) for some. Why can't there be a fee charged for users. I understand a very few need some help. I would help as I do already when someone calls on me and I know or truly believe they need help. But we all need to ask WHY all this is necessary and why we are being forced to pay for it based on the value of our property or how hard we work. We have to change the structure of how we fund schools. It is out of control. It is too easy for the schools to just take our money and do as they please. Independent or faith based schools are the answer.
