Parents will be able to choose which public school their children attend, regardless of district boundaries, as long as the school has room.
This doesnt mean that we can choose another county correct.. It just means that if we had multiple schools for different areas of LC we could choose one out of the our specific county
Could you ,Andrew, or Walter do a blog on here about the "House of Restoration". Look into it. Im curious as to the rest of the ppl have to say about it. Ill comment on it when you/if you get all the info together from the Apostle and city and any other people involved.
Should be a good topic.
That is quite a list of additional laws. I find several to my liking, and some I feel are not in our best interest. Those changes on HOPE Scholarships I feel are well needed to keep the program live and active.
The Tea Party. 4th of July Tea parties. Protests. The Gadsden flag. Freedom. NObama's change. No more bailout. Obama gets an f (economy, iraq war and $1 trillion). Why shopping malls closed going out of business? Why?
Ive heard that you are already looking into it. Thanks. This should get interesting as long as all the info is posted up correctly. Awesome thing this man of God is doing or trying to do here.
If this is the same House of Restoration that is also in Griffin then we need to look into this. There are already alot of problems with the one in Griffin. When in doubt, please check with the local Griffin Police Dept.
If there is a House Of Restoration in Griffin, Ga. it is not affiliated with the Barnesville one. I think it is fantastic what this program has to offer. The first and most important thing they offer is Salvation. Many of these people have lost all hope and need to know there is hope through Jesus Christ as knowing him and accepting him as their Lord and Savior. Then the rest of their life will fall into place. This is a temporary program that helps these people with job placement, education, and a plan toward independent living. I have heard that some of the home owners are complaining about these new neighbors. My question is, Why? These people are the least of your worries on Atlanta Street. The majority of people that walk up and down those sidewalks in front of those complaining neighbors homes are drug addicts, alcoholics and God only knows what else. For once lets come together as a community and encourage and support thihs ministry that has been put here in Barnesville. Who knows, you or a family memeber or someone you care about very much may very well need such a ministry in their lives one day.
the one in Griffin got shut down or not allowed to happen.
As far as i know the man that heads it up runs a tight ship. If the occupants dont follow the rules they are back to where they came from.( the street) Maybe we can get a topic on here full of details and info. Maybe Walter or Andrew can pull some police reports or whatever from griffin if this in fact the same set up. I heard it never met "code" and wasnt allowed to go through. These ppl that reside in these homes already walk the streets. The homes are for the ones who want a change in their lives. Its not like there is bad ppl brought in from other cities, they are already here. Walking the streets of barnesville with nothing. This home gives them a shelter with air and food. In turn they must abide by a long list of rules. Alcohol tests, drug tests, curfews, random head counts, chores, etc. This is a positive thing for ppl that want to live a different life than they have been.
So what is the progress on getting a blog on here? How much info have to got so far?
Excuse me?! Atlanta Street is not a bad place to live. I live here and have never had any problems. The neighbors are all very friendly and we watch out for each other. This is exactly why we are concerned about this so called House of Restoration. I have never seen a counselor there and I understand by law they do not need to have one. These people need a place that is going to help them -- not take advantage of them. I will tell you what I DO see -- I see groups of people outside in the yards of these houses at the wee hours of the morning (3am). Their talking and such wakes up the surrounding neighbors. I have seen a girl twice outside in what appears to be an altered state as she cannot walk straight and the men in the other house laughing at her. I see a man standing in front of the house, his body shaking violently. I do not see anyone there to help him -- isn't that what this house is supposed to be for?? I see the residents just hanging -- not being involved in a program but just hanging around the yards of the houses. I see the men and women going in and out of each others backdoor. I hear the men cat-calling at females as they pass by the houses. These people have occupied these houses for 2 weeks and already I have easily compiled a list for you of the reasons why these houses are not being run properly. ANd yes it is the same organization that was run out of Griffin. How do I know? A girl that lives there told me. She said they had violated fire laws. I think the owner of these houses should let these people live next door to him. Give them 3 or 4 house on HIS block and see if it doesn't effect his neighborhood. We have a right to complain. This will lower our property values. It will increase the crime in the area. You can't bring people like this to a place and just drop them without proper treatment, supervision and controls in place. It is unfair to them and to the homeowners in the area.
House of Restoration, if this is such an upstanding ideal why is it no one can find out anything about them? Why was there corporation fees not paid this year. Why does it seem residents are just hanging out? I personally tried to contact with no success. Who supports this program and for real, how many barnesville peersons live there? How many people live in these little houses? Lets use facts. By the way, this is a good street.
Good street.. Who are you kidding. Ive lived in Barnesville my whole life and Atlanta street has never been considered a "good street". You arent fooling anyone. Ok, just take the two houses out of the picture. Now look. Same things going on, same "problems" that you speak of, same crack heads up and down the streets from 12th street all the way up to the old gas station, back down to the white ppls trailer park. I wished i had a video recorder to mount to my car and ride up and down that street periodically for 3 days and post you a link. The first "couple" of houses are ok and the houses at the end before you get to "hot spot" are ok but pretty much every thing inbetween is ghetto fabulous and looks like some sort of poverty infested section of New Orleans. Half the ppl on the street dont even care to keep grass in their front yard, its all dirt. 12 ppl on the front porch fanning themselves while 12 children play from the sidewalk up to the steps. The houses on mill st look better than a lot of them on Atlanta st.
You havnt seen a counselor there because you dont want to see one. Just because there isnt a car there doesnt mean there isnt anyone there. How can you tell who is who. If you have that much time on your hand to just sit and watch for hrs on in you must live very close. Have you complained about that drug infested Apt complex lately. Loud music in and out of there all day and night long.
Corporation fees? this is a Ministry to win ppl to Jesus. Instead of barely lifting your blinds so no one sees you walk over there and introduce yourself to the director or counselor and adress your issues. If there is a person or persons that have caused a problem they will be delt with accordingly and removed from the program.
As far as the ppl that cant stand or walk straight.. Im sure that this house of restoration brought them there.. Right. You are truely ignorant. These ppl walk up that down the streets daily in this manner. If you think someone is there and has been drinking request them to give an alcohol test. Call the police. If its that big of a deal, the police reports will reflect it and it will fold anyway.
Why hasnt anyone called the police yet?
You hear them cat-calling females. Man you live very close to hear that. Report it. Dont come on here and complain about it. Report it. Find the director, and tell him. Go knock on the door of the "office". Call the police. Get them there to make a report.
Ok so what does it matter if there are 4 ppl living in a house. How many hoodlums lived in the house before it got remodeled. It looked quite horrible then. What is the difference in 4 ex-drug addicts living there wanting a change and 4 college kids renting a place. Is there? There are houses all over town with college kids living there that dont meet "fire code" or whatever.
It doesnt have anything to do with the owner of the house. It got purchased and done up so that it isnt a sore to peoples eyes. How many houses have been bought and flipped or renovated on Atlanta st over the past 2 years. 12 maybe. Seems to me that these guys that are buying up the houses and bringing them up to par is doing a service for the other residents on the street. If anything is bringing down the property value, its the other houses that dont care and just the houses go.
This is a rental property. How is that bringing down the value of your property. If it was purchased and turned into an establishment that could be a factor but for someone to pay rent to another person isnt gonna bring yours down. As long as the houses are kept up (which a lot of them on ATL street are run down anyway) the values will be ok.
Ill meet you at the houses anytime and we can both go in there or heck a group of us can go there. What ever you want to do. Tell me when!
You can't be serious!!!! I am going to keep this short and sweet. Bottom line is this is a ministry that offers a place for people to first and formost accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. ( By the way do you know him as yours?) #2 live in a temporary supervised enviroment that helps them get back on their feet. Offering: Education, Placement in job programs, training on living independently, financial money managing and of course spiritual guidance. There are many people that have been through this ministry that are now in their own homes and live very productive lives. I can assure you that you my friend have a lot more problems on your Atlanta Street than the people that live in the houses of restoration. These houses are helping people. There is a supervisor there 24/7 so you don't know as much as you think you do. Also just for the record when you see someone out very early in the morning they have just come in from work while others are up getting ready to leave for work. They also have Bible study 3 times a day. The paper interviewed the director of the program earlier this week, so you should be more informed about the operation of the ministry in next weeks paper. I pray that God will soften your heart and that you will have a heart for this ministry and your complaints be directed toward the real problems on Atlanta Street. Have a Blessed Day!
First of all, why not use your name instead of #7 & #8 anonymous. I beleive those of us who live on Atlanta street down to the rental area will take exception to what you have to say about Atlanta Street. The people I see are people, not branded by names. I look for the God light in them and when you look for good you find good. My shades are up during the day, I have nothing to hide. I'll meet you at the house, say when. I tried to go to the source to learn about these homes but noone would give me a name or number, it could have been you as you are anonymous. By the way, a non profit agency (church) is required to keep their registration current.
You have no idea what position (if any) i hold in this city, county or state and for personal reasons and maybe even retaliation reasons i do remain anonymous. Why is it any of your concearn if I post my name or not. This is something similar to what the democrats want to do with the union voting. No more anonymous voting on things. They want you to register and sign your name to what you feel in your heart is the right thing to do then you get retaliated against down the road because you may have went against something that others was for.
Apostle Bobby Slaughter is his name. I know the last name is slaughter but i think his first name is Bobby.. may not be though. Dont hold me to it. I rode by there about 30 minutes ago and there were 2 men and a woman infront of the Office. (2:00pm)
All of them carried themselves fine in my opinion. However on the way there i saw the old gas station/tireshop that was horrible. 15 ppl atleast hanging out there hollering at ppl. Tons of traffic up and down ATL street walking that looked like the promising thugs of tomorrow. Some of them act like its burbon st or river st as much as they congregate up and down the sidewalk and in front of houses. Count the houses that have sweaty fat women fanning themselves on the porch and men sitting around with beer in brown paper bags. Its all over.
I will say that the first 15 or so houses on ATL st are Ok. After that it goes down hill though. Every few houses there will be a decent one.
Apparantly you have not really put forth an effort to go to the House of Restoration and meet the Rev. because I have meet him more than once myself. And also so you will know, a non profit INDEPENDENT work in ministry is not required to keep a registration current. Why in the world would you Ms. Huguely be so against this wonderful ministry.
Apparently you are not reading what is being written. I do not think anyone said they are against the idea of helping someone get on their feet. Yes, I DO live close and therefore I DO see what is going on in those houses. I have lived on Atlanta Street for years and have never seen anyone going through drug withdrawls on the street. I see these poor people now, who are needing guidance, alone going through withdrawls on the street. It is scary and sad. They are residents of one of thosee three halfway houses. Yes not 2, THREE. I have also taken regular walks on Atlanta Street for years and have never had anyone be so rude as to catcall at me -- until these houses were opened. I willnot call the police over such a matter -- get serious. It just shows a lack of supervision in those houses. I myself have been up there and spoke to them. It was then a resident told me that they had been housed in Griffin but kicked out for violating fire laws. I did not see any counselor, overseer, house manager anything. I was there for about 20 minutes. I did see a young lady that was so 'altered; that she could barely stand up. Again, this has nothing to do with the people IN the house. It has everything to do with the fact that the people running this halfway house are not being good stewards. They are simply housing these people. And they need alot more then that. And who lied and told you they were ex-drug addicts??? No, according to the young lady I spoke with and the two men also involved in the conversation -- they ARE drug addicts wanting to clean up their lives or court ordered to do so. This is why we are outraged -- they need STRUCTURED PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION not just simply housed.
You do not know what you are talking about BJ. This is not a prision no guards are needed. HELLO....... You talk like that is what they need. These are not hard core criminals. These are people that have been either homeless, jobless, an addict be it alcohol or drug, abused etc.... Once again I say they are here to be guided spirtually and helped to get back on their feet independently. This is not a half way house these are homes open to minister to ANYONE in need. You should go and get involved in some of their Bible studies through the day it would really help someone like yourself that seems to be in need emotionally. You should not judge people, The person that you think was so alterd that she could barely stand up could very well be the young lady that recently lost both parents in an autmmobile accident , suffered a divorce and had a miscarriage all within 1 month. This trama lead to a nervous breakdown. Once again you should be terriffied of all the people in the apartments, and those walking back and forth from 12th st. to town, not the people that are in the house of restoration SUPERVISED 24/7. And by the way I am sorry to say but I think you are lying about the cat callin I think you just thought it would sound good to add that.
I think this is wonderful what these houses are offering, I wished this would have been available years ago for a dear friend of ours. What we need in Barnesville ( and especially Atlanta St) is a couple more of vacant houses turned into this. I think it is fantastic. Thank you to the person or people who have made this available and thank you to the owner of the rental houses for renting to them. May God bless you and may God hekp those neighbors on Atlanta Street that want to see this fail.
What in the heck is all the fuss about? For goodness sakes Atlanta Street people, its not like you live on Thomaston Street. Come on now, anything that comes at this point is an improvemment from what you have. Leave these people alone.
#1 The people at the house told me it was a halfway house when I meet them. #2 A neighbor went and discussed the catcalling with the people at the house and it stopped at that point. Ask them if anyone came and told them that this was not acceptable behavior in this neighborhood. And #3 -- again you are not reading what is being written. No one is judging those people -- we are talking about the SET UP. People trying to come out of that situation need to have STRUCTURED SUPERVISION by a PROFESSIONAL. I want those people to get their lives on the right track. They do not deserve to be housed like sardines and left to fend for themselves. And lastly #4 -- I was speaking with the young female who was coming off or down from something. The men around were laughing like jr high schoolers at her. No it was not trauma, it was narcotics. Making excuses for the situation is not the way to handle it. We have laws and they have to follow them just like everyone else.
Jesus says when you have ministered to the least of these, you have ministered to Me. I encourage anyone including you Mrs. Hughley to read Matthew chapter 25 beginning at verse 31. Let's pray this House of Restoration is allowed to continue their ministry. It is not a business, it is a MINISTRY! Thank goodness this man has a heart for the least of our society because God's will is that no one be lost including drug addicts and alcoholics.

there are several homes on Thomaston available why don't you arrange for one to become one of these homes. I know several homes that help people in need that are in big expensve homes.
I'm sure the people being served would enjoy the luxury of space.
Ever heard of the Potter's House? Supported by many church ministries and concerned people. I am one of those. I would even support one of these on Atlanta Street IF all is true.
BJ you are still not listening.......These people are supervised 24/7 and it is structured. What is your definition of a professional? Come on now you are not concerned about them being housed like sardines or not you are just a trouble maker. No one is making excuses only trying to take up for this ministry.
First, thank you for giving me someone to contact in regard to the House of Restoration. I did contact both Reverends Slaughter. Had I been able to speak with them earlier I would not have had a problem with the homes being here.
I think everyone on this blog would agree if some group moved onto their street they would want to know about them. I found them to be genuine, sincere, loving people. All people are Gods children and I think sometimes we need to be reminded of this.
