this is SPLOST $$$$$ and cannot be used for anything but this. Hopefully, it will put a few LC people to work and they buy some materials from LC businesses
I dont use this word much....but I HATE whoever posts these comments. They never make any sense. It's like some foreigner typed his sentence in Google translator and this is the result. What makes matters worse is that it's obviously a firefighter or EMS worker because thats what all his/her comments are about. Good thing they are more than likely volunteers.
If you have ever seen what the paid firefighters and the EMTs (who by the way work for a private contractor, not the county) had to live in at Grove St then you would not ask such a question. People around here are quick to praise fire fighters and EMTs but that's all they get - lip service. Most of these individuals have to work 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to make ends meet because Lamar county's pay is so low. The least you people can do is give them a decent place to stay (away from their families) while they are protecting you from yourselves. It's my understanding that this is to be paid for by SPLOST which means from sales tax revenue so why are you against it? you probably don't shop here anyway. You probably go to uppity places like Fayetteville or McDonough to shop so you can be seen with the fashionable crowd. For God's sake support your firefighters and quit bellyaching.
I wholeheartedly agree. If a business is built in the county with county tax dollars then every effort should be taken to keep all facets of the construction in the county; design, contracting, materials, etc.
Most of you "belly-achers" probably don't even know that our county has only 3 paid firefighters! That's one per shift! Do you really want one firefighter to show up at your home as it burns waiting on the volunteers to come help? We have a great bunch of volunteer firefighters in this comunity, but they have other jobs and responsibilities that often make it an "iffy" situation. Not only do we need a decent firestation, we need funds made avaliable to increase the number of firefighters and the pay they deserve!
There are stations all around the county sitting empty of staff or equipment. Will they be manned? It is a long distance from downtown to the edges of the county.
If the problem is the quarters the three people stay in, we could build a very nice bedroom or sitting room for $250,000 per employee. If it was your money, would you spend it that way?
Do you seriously think this is a good idea during our current economic status?
Okay, rant rage done.
I think the county needs this type of installation, and will reap benefits from having it.
