Recently I was driving along listening to WSB radio’s news coverage of the death of one child and the maiming of another as they were walking to their Atlanta School bus stop. They were attacked by pit bulls allowed to roam free by their owner or owners.
One of the dogs attacked responding police and was shot dead. The other was hunted down, captured and euthanized. Sadly, the charges against the irresponsible owner are not serious enough.

Kids, ATVs and pit bulls just don’t mix

You are absolutely right Walter... our lawmakers need to "sober up" and enact laws that actually do something to protect and serve the public in all of these situations.

So the government should legislate common sense and good parenting? I think there are already leash laws in Atlanta. Obviously that didn't work - what next? Every parent has seen the horror stories of children killed on ATVs - even with helmets on - so now what? We have to take responsibility for ourselves.

Amen on the helmets. They sure do save lives. And the fact that some people don't follow a is not adequate reasoning against it.

Some people don't have common sense or think about consequences. Putting a kid on an ATV and turning them loose impacts all of us when something bad happens. This is why we have and need laws.
