A nonpartisan Tea (taxed enough already) Party is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Labor Day (September 7) at Ritz Park in downtown Barnesville.

I'm so glad that the country is a lot more intelligent and has more foresight than these backwards backwoods Lamar County rednecks!
I disagreed with Pres. Bush about excessive spending, his immigration policy and failure to implement the Fair Tax. But all of these problems have been present for many years. Your problem is shared by many, an absurd hatred of Pres. Bush. Get over it, you won and have huge majorities in Congress. Pres. Obama's problem now is he has become so radical, that many of his own party in Congress won't support his policies. 44 house democrats voted against Cap & Trade. The Senate won't vote on it because it would fail.
So take a deep breath and relax. Get over your Bushitis and enjoy your Obama years. May they only last four years

If you're so unhappy with our government why not move out of the country! Oh, I forgot...you can't rant and rave about petty stuff (as you so commonly do) freely elsewhere as you do here. I bet you were helping Bush look for those infamous weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! Maybe if we'd not spent so much on an unnecessary "war" there would be money here and our economy would not be in dire straits.
Thank God American voters are much smarter than you are and saw the need for a new direction in our country and chose (OVERWHELMINGLY) that new direction. He is OUR president and he deserves all of the respect afforded to other presidents. It makes me sick that people don't respect our country's leader.
And President Obama is not playing Robin Hood. Social assistance (welfare) has been around long before the current administration. Our president is trying to help those Americans who are struggling because of the dismal economic situation that developed during Bush's terms. I know of many people who lost lucrative jobs and could not find new ones. Before they knew it they had to go apply for public assistance. These are not lazy or sorry people. These are people that have been a victim of a bad economy. Look at the number of businesses that have closed within the last year in Lamar County! God forbid that you or a close family member of yours would lose their job and could not find another one. Well, maybe not...maybe that would help you see that just because you get help from a government agency, it doesn't make you a menace to society.
And before you start your sadistic ravings: I am college educated (2 advanced degrees). I am employed. I own my home. I am married. I have one child. I am a registered voter. I pay taxes and I voted for President Barack Obama. I think he's doing a good job getting this country turned around.
So you don't agree? Who cares? Get a life. Get a hobby. Barack Obama is our president and will be for the next 8 years.

Smart voter…… well some of us…… or me at least, tend to disagree. If you want to label me as a red-neck…….. you feel free to do so. It is your right to think and believe whatever you want. It called a freedom that you presently have.
History will rule on the presidency of George Bush. I personally think it will be favorably painted. I guess we will just have to give it a decade to see which of us is most correct.
I don’t care much for the direction of the current administration. Tax and spend government is not what I consider good government. I tend to side with Thomas Jefferson that the least amount of government is the best government. Redistribution of another person’s wealth is in the direction of communism and I am certainly ready to fight against that.
Keep your eyes open. Taxing those that provide the jobs will only amount to fewer jobs. That over spending will make its way down to the bottom.
When we spend money through trade imbalance with poorer countries, that wealth is just gone. When we export jobs or technology, that resource is just gone. Lowest bidder who has the least to lose gets it all.
Instead of calling each other names and crying about something that we have allowed to happen for the past 30-40 years, why don't we all get together and work on the real problem?
This isn't an eight month Obama problem. It isn't an eight year Bush problem. It isn't all Reagan's fault, and it isn't just Clinton's either. They all had a hand in it.
It is a problem that equally comes from liberals, conservatives, Republicans, and Democrats. We are in a mess and should really focus on fixing the problems by using common sense, instead of clinging to misplaced notions that either party gives a rat's behind about our long term future. Instead of mindless squawking, start thinking and make some useful suggestions.
Sending illegals home is a good place to start. There are other good places also. When we fix the real problems, taxes can go down. Until we do that taxes will have to keep increasing.
Bush good. Not mess from past. Obama gets an f. Fails grade 6 times. Hurt economy, healthcare, school, war and so many. Why. Why. Why? He don't fix.
It seems clear to me that it's time to raise taxes, not lower them. I want the government involved in my life because I like to drive on paved, well-maintained roads. I want the government involved in my life because I like having fire and police departments. I want the government involved in my life because I want the children of unemployed people to have enough to eat. I want government involved in my life because I want to have some assurance that the toys I buy my children are not covered with lead paint. I want government involved in my life because I want the citizens of this country to be educated to at least the minimum level that they are.
The purpose of government is to promote the general welfare. The fact of the matter is that the world is far more complex than it was in the eighteenth century, and we have to think in more complex terms to solve our problems. Name-calling and tea parties will not put bread on anyone's table or bring one brave soldier home from an imperialist, oil-driven war.
You might as well give up. These people you're arguing with closed their minds long ago. They won't listen to reason. They listen to Fox News and they regurgitate it on this blog. Smart voters (and I am one) are the minority in this region.

The Obama plan is nothing more than punishment to the successful and rewards for the lazy. The more successful a person is, the more that person is punished. The totally sorry and lazy reap the most rewards. Ideology like that is destined to fail.
And yes, I believe our soldiers are brave. Even though they place their faith in corrupt institutions, they are still some of the best our country has to offer. I hope you do not want to throw away their lives to keep the price of gasoline low in Barnesville.
I am as patriotic as anyone, and I believe in the necessity of just war. But fighting for Exxon-Mobil is not my idea of justice. For that matter, witness the debacle in the Senate over the F-22: the Pentagon does not want any more planes, but our senators think they know military strategy better than our warriors. We should not base our national defense on the number of jobs a defense system creates. Instead, I'll take a few thousand F-35s any day--that's what the Pentagon wants.
We live in a utopia compared to much of the world, but we can make it better. It's that spirit that has created our national greatness, our coming together as a community of peoples to solve problems. How would it diminish you to run your car on hydrogen instead of gasoline? For what we have spent in Iraq, we could have paid to convert every car and build thousands of fueling stations--and not one soldier would have died to accomplish it. How would it diminish you for your neighbor's children to get the health care they need? Would it kill you if they succeeded in school? How would it diminish you to have solar panels on the roof of your home to lower your dependence on the power company?
We need to have policies that make our economy prosper. I suppose you could argue that Lamar County has never been more prosperous or that it was under George Bush. But you would be ignoring the fact this economic downturn began during the Bush administration. President Obama inherited this recession from President Bush. Like it or not, that is a fact.
I will gladly pay taxes to make sure you have police and fire protection. I honestly believe in community spirit, and together we can do a great deal more than we can separately. I hope if your home is burning, you do not tell the fire fighters that you do not want government interference in your life.
Here's a stimulus plan, tailored to each individual: get an education. The government (i.e., the rest of us) will even help you pay for it. The data are clear that not only will you find work more easily, but you will also earn more. You will prosper, and so will the rest of us.

I served in the military for over 20 years, on active duty. I never once put my faith in a corrupt institution. We never put our lives on the line for gasoline either. The majority of us put our faith in God and risks our lives for the United States of America. We did it so people like you could be free to say something like you said, as disgusting as it was.

You definitely are clueless when it comes to the F-22 program. First the F-22 has two engines where as the F-35 does not. The F-22 has stealth capabilities that the F-35 does not. Those two ingredients alone are more valuable than your lack of knowledge in the subject can comprehend.

Last time I paid my local and state taxes the police and fire protection were budgeted there. Do you know what your federal taxes (the taxes we are talking about) are being used for? You were so right on when you scolded the general on TV for using the term, "ma'am," instead of "Senator." After all, in the military, "ma'am" is a term of respect when addressing a female of superior rank or position.
The general was totally wrong. You are not a person of superior rank or position. You are a member of one of the world’s most corrupt organizations, the U.S. Senate, equaled only by the U.S. House of Representatives.
Congress is a cesspool of liars, thieves, inside traders, traitors, drunks (one who killed a staffer, yet is still revered), criminals, and other low level swine who, as individuals (not all, but many), will do anything to enhance their lives, fortunes and power, all at the expense of the People of the United States and its Constitution, in order to be continually re-elected. When the general entered the military (as most of us who served) he wrote the government a blank check, offering his life to protect your derriere now safely and comfortably ensconced in a multi-thousand dollar leather chair, paid for by the general's taxes. You repaid him for this by humiliating him in front of millions.
