Barnesville-Lamar County Recycling
Did you know...
Since 1984 Barnesville has been proactive in its recycling efforts. Offering curbside recycling to all residents as well as a recycling center for drop-off, the city is pleased to continue offering progressive recycling programs that keep Georgia beautiful.
The Recycling Center is a project of the city of Barnesville and is funded through proceeds from the sale of recyclable materials collected as well as support from city and county government.

Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm
Location
On Academy Drive beside the Lamar County Health Department.
Newspapers
Take newspapers to green container at the Recycling Center on Academy Drive. Do not wrap papers in plastic bags, string, wire, or paper grocery bags. Just toss in bin.
Glass
The Center accepts all colors of glass. Labels do not have to be removed, but please rinse the containers. Remove lids and caps. Please, no window glass, light bulbs, or bakeware.
Aluminum / Tin Cans
The most common aluminum can is soft drink cans. Look for the recycling logo on the container. Please empty and rinse cans. We can accept clean, washed steel or tin food cans, aluminum pie pans, and aluminum foil.
Plastic Containers
The Center can accept plastic milk jugs and soft-drink liter bottles. Please rinse and remove caps. Unfortunately, no bags, toys, or plastic flower pots. When shopping, look for the symbols on the bottom or side of plastic containers. Barnesville-Lamar County Recycling Center can currently resell #1 and #2 recyclables.
Cardboard
Acceptable cardboard includes corrugated boxes, detergent, pizza, cereal (the inside liner needs to be removed), grocery bags and most cardboard packaging. Businesses with large amounts of cardboard should contact the Recycling Center to schedule pick-ups. Waxed containers, such as juice containers, are not acceptable at this time.
Home/Office Waste Paper
The Center accepts computer print out, copy paper, envelopes, and junk mail. Also magazines, catalogs, telephone books - any with stapled or glued bindings are acceptable. No carbons or bound books, please.
NO-NO's
- Plastics can be recycled to make fiberfill stuffing for jackets and comforters, crates, and piping?
- Recycled milk jugs are now being used to make indoor carpet and exterior decking?
- Recycling one ton of newsprint (a pick-up truck load) saves 17 trees?
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep a 100 watt light bulb burning 3.5 hours?
- One three foot stack of newspapers weighs 100 pounds and equals one thirty foot tree?
- Each household averages two tons of trash yearly?

NO-NO's
- NO paper towels, napkins, Kleenex, toilet paper, or paper plates.
- NO paper containers lined with foil, carbon paper, or pressure sensitive glued paper like "Post-Its."
- NO light bulbs, vases, window glass, drinking glasses, glass bakeware, or mirrors.
- NO spray cans or coat hangers.
- NO styrofoam cups, egg cartons, takeout trays, plastic bags, cups, dishes, toys, flower pots, or bread wrappers.
- NO used clothing.
