The Lamar County Trojans will host Rabun County in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state basketball tournament tonight.

Lamar County has never hosted a state tourney game and has not been seeded this high entering a tourney since the 1970s and the reign of Coach Oscar Wimberly.

The Lamar County Trojans stunned the top-seeded Spencer Owls Saturday night and will play for the region 5AA title Monday night. [Full Story »] 

The Lamar County Trojans were outscored 27-0 in the second half Friday night and got blown out 34-14 by the North Oconee Titans in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.

The Titans got good field position early after a Nick Fambro fumble. They scored with less than three minutes gone in the first period to take a 7-0 lead.

Playing their most inspired football in weeks, the Lamar County Trojans defeated the Manchester Blue Devils 28-27 Friday night at Trojan Field to clinch second place in Region 5AA.

The win means Lamar County will host a first round playoff game at Trojan Field next week. Their opponent will be the North Oconee Titans from Bogart. The Titans opened the season with seven straight wins but lost their last three, including a loss Friday night to Fannin County 17-7. They are the third place team from Region 8AA. The Titans are averaging 26 ppg and giving up only 11 ppg.

A win over North Oconee would propel the Trojans to a second round game on the road at Calhoun provided the undefeated Yellow Jackets get past 6-4 Avondale in the first round of postseason play. Calhoun's go to guy is five star, division 1 recruit Da'Rick Rogers who is committed to UGA.

The top spot in the Region 5AA standings and all-important seeding for post season play will be on the line tonight night when the Lamar County Trojans battle the Callaway Cavaliers at Trojan Field.

This will be the biggest game yet in the short history of Trojan Field.
